Strike the keys on a piano to create a chord, a harmony.
In perfumery, combine single notes to create a scent that has the power to transcend its components – an accord.
Here at The Accords, long time beauty editor Rosalind Thomas and passionate photographer Laura Reid work together to create accords between images and words, explore the evocative nature of scent and try their damnedest to escape reality for just a little while (and then a little while longer).
“I love to create images that give the reader a sense of how the perfume actually smells,” says Reid, who is also a successful lifestyle photographer, “and celebrating the beauty of the bottles themselves.”
“After at least a decade as a beauty writer, fragrance just continues to fascinate me,” says Thomas. “Yes there’s the whole mystery of olfaction (the sense of smell is confounding to the poor scientists who attempt to study it), but I mostly love the shameless storytelling and invisible indulgence of scent, and its super-powers of transformation. Whether you’re walking down the aisle, writing reports or running away to the French Riviera, there’s a perfume that can take the experience to another level… And please can I come to Cannes with you to confirm the Riviera bit?”
So yeah, we are perfume obsessed, in love with the memories they make, the stories they tell, and the joy of smelling delicious just because you can. Come and join us…
The Accords is based in Sydney, Australia.
