Jo Malone is like the naturally pretty girl of the fragrance world who worries no one takes her seriously enough. Sometimes when a perfume is so simple and easy to wear, it’s tempting to pass it over for something more challenging.
Though the imagery for Wood Sage & Sea Salt is all blustery British shorelines, the scent itself is more about the girl, cozied up in tweed and boyfriend cardigan, coming in from the cold. It’s quite sweet and zingy in the opening thanks to a generous dose of sharp grapefruit (the citrus of the moment), which has a curiously salty edge to it, like sea-spray caught against soft skin. This salt note somehow clings throughout the wear of the cologne that is pretty delightful. Just like Miss Naturally Pretty, the perfume warms up into a gently woody and soft ambrette seed base, a natural musk that’s part fluffy towels, part sexy skin.
Perfect for super hot days when anything floral just feels too much.
